It is a retrospective of art work done by the late Erich Schmidt–Unterseher, an internationally acclaimed artist and a native of Augsburg, Germany.
Due to the large interest and success of this show, the Gallery, The Malerhof, will open its door again showing Erich Schmidt-Unterseher’s works from March 15-31, 2008. This will give you the opportunity to view the show again.
Mr. Erich Schmidt-Unterseher studied at the School of Fine Arts in Augsburg, thereafter at the University of Munich with Professor Marxmueller in graphics and painting: and by Prof. Eska and Hufnagel sculpting and ceramics. After studying with Oscar Kokoschka, who greatly influenced his work in the “School of seeing,” in Salzburg. Further studies were with Professor H. Kirchner, Munich and with Prof. Luigi Minguzzi, Mailand. Later Erich Schmidt-Unterseher worked in etching with Prof. Eglau, Berlin and Lithography with Prof. Otte in Salzburg.
Schmidt-Unterseher was adored and honored by his many students in various collages in Bavaria. He was greatly admired at the Holbein Collage in Augsburg.
Starting 1962 he exhibited regularly at the “Grosse Schwaebischen Kunstausstellung”in Augsburg and since 1967 at the “Grosse Kunstausstellung in Haus der Kunst“in Munich. In 1971 he showed his art in the Austrian Institute of Culture in Rome. In the year of 1979 he participated in a collective art show in Bonn, Germany showing at the Äusstellung zeitgenoessischer Kunst aus Bayern.
Erich Schmidt-Unterseher was recognized with the Honorary Prize of the City of Salzburg in 1966. In 1977 the Art Award of the Diozoese Augsburg and in 1980 the Arts Award for the region of Swabien in Bavaria.
Erich Schmidt-Unterseher was further influenced by his journeys through the vast regions of Russia and his years of studies throughout France, Italy and Greece.
